(2 POSTS)
Department of Applied Chemistry
POST A: POLYMENR SCIENCE (1 POST)
Applicants must hold at least a Master’s degree in Polymer Sciences with two years teaching
experience at tertiary level. A PhD is an added advantage. In addition, applicants must demonstrate interest in developing independent research. A research and publication record,
which shows potential for continued growth would prove advantageous. The incumbent will be expected to develop the teaching of Polymer Sciences and Applied Sciences at undergraduate level and to supervise final-year projects and Industrial attachment.
POST B: ORGANIC CHEMISTRY (1 POST)
Applicants must hold at least a Masters degree in Organic Chemistry and/or be experienced in teaching Organic Chemistry at tertiary level (a minimum of 2 years) and must have extensive knowledge in Organic Synthesis or Industrial Organic Chemistry. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Organic Chemistry at undergraduate honours level and will also be expected to develop research within his/her area of specialization. In addition, applicants will be expected to develop, update and review Organic Chemistry courses at undergraduate and possibly postgraduate level in order to keep up with changes in technology and will also be involved in the supervision of final year research projects and
industrial attachment.
- TECHNICIAN/SENIOR TECHNICIAN(1 POST)
Department of Applied Chemistry
Applicants must possess a minimum of National Diploma in Chemical Technology or equivalent and 1 year post qualification experience in a similar environment. Experience of working with AAS and UV-VIS Spectrophotometer is a must. A working knowledge of HPLC, GC or FTIR will be an added advantage.
Duties and responsibilities:
The job will involve setting up equipment, apparatus and preparation of reagents for laboratory practical work for students. Assist Academics in supervision and demonstration of practicals. Assist and supervise students during laboratory work for research projects. Prepare materials, test samples and perform sample analysis for research for Academic staff and Consultancy work. The candidate will be expected to operate, demonstrate, care, maintain laboratory equipment and maintain a safe work environment.
