PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANT TO THE VICE CHANCELLOR (1 POST)
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
This senior role reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor and is pivotal in driving institutional transformation. The Professional Assistant will provide high-level strategic coordination, performance monitoring, and operational support to ensure the seamless implementation of digital platforms, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and cross-functional initiatives aligned with NUST’s vision of becoming a state-of-the-art, self-sustaining university.
Key Result Areas
- Strategic Coordination and Performance Monitoring
- Assist in developing and tracking the Strategic Plan, Annual Plan, and Performance Contract for the Vice-Chancellor.
- Monitor implementation of strategic projects and SOPs across executive offices to ensure timely execution and alignment with national priorities.
- Coordinate institutional KPIs and ensure integration of cross-cutting measures such as gender equity, inclusivity, and wellness.
- Provide regular performance briefs and strategic insights to the Vice-Chancellor.
- Digital Transformation Oversight
- Support the design, deployment, and integration of digital systems (dashboards, scorecards, e-governance tools).
- Monitor adoption and performance of digital platforms across academic, financial, administrative, and library units.
- Identify bottlenecks and propose innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and user experience.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Executive Liaison
- Serve as a strategic communication bridge between the Vice-Chancellor and executive offices (Pro Vice-Chancellors, Registrar, Bursar, Librarian).
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration, knowledge sharing, and change management initiatives.
- Attend stakeholder meetings and engagements as delegated by the Vice-Chancellor.
- Institutional Sustainability and Governance Support
- Assist in operationalising third-stream income initiatives and university-owned enterprises.
- Liaise with foundations and strategic units to promote long-term financial resilience.
- Ensure compliance with legislative frameworks and Council resolutions.
- Administrative and Executive Support
- Manage the Vice-Chancellor’s correspondence and briefings; draft speeches, communiqués, and presentations.
- Provide updates on Government policies and legislative changes affecting university operations.
- Conduct research and compile statistical reports to support executive decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience
Possession of an earned PhD from a recognised institution is a must. Professorial status will be a distinct advantage and at least 5 years’ experience in a senior managerial position within an academic or strategic transformation environment. The candidate must have demonstrated expertise in digital innovation, stakeholder coordination, and institutional performance monitoring.
