Bulawayo, Zimbabwe — The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) is at the forefront of empowering Zimbabwe’s next wave of innovators, thanks to the ICT Scholarships Programme by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ).
With six students currently supported at NUST, the programme, which began in 2022, aims to ease financial barriers for high-achieving learners pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) degrees at state universities. In special cases, it also caters to non-STEM students enrolled at universities with limited STEM offerings.
During a recent engagement at NUST, POTRAZ assessed the academic and social progress of the scholarship recipients and highlighted the role the institution plays in shaping future-ready professionals. The visit included a ceremonial handover of high-end laptops to new beneficiaries, presented by university principals, a move that symbolises the Authority’s investment in digital learning.
Students shared personal stories about how the programme has transformed their university experience, underscoring its positive impact on both academic performance and personal development.
The engagement also saw discussions between POTRAZ officials and NUST leadership on how to enhance collaborations and ensure continued input into the Scholarships Management Committee, helping to refine and future-proof the initiative.
NUST’s vibrant participation in this national programme illustrates the powerful synergy between education and technology policy in driving the country’s knowledge economy forward.
