Overview

The International Network on Appropriate Technology (INAT) is proud to issue this Second Call for Participation for the 12th ICAT. Returning to Zimbabwe, this year's conference is hosted by the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Bulawayo (Venue changed from Victoria Falls).

For over two decades, INAT has been a leading voice in the Appropriate Technology (AT) movement, celebrating scholarly contributions and innovations across the continent. Building on the success of previous conferences in Rwanda, Ghana, Kenya, Benin, Sudan, and South Africa, the 12th ICAT continues the tradition of blending high-level academic research with practical, grassroots solutions.

 New Publication Opportunity

We are pleased to announce a significant new partnership to boost research productivity and visibility for our contributors. Through a collaboration with Global and African scholars, we have secured a high-quality outlet for this year's research:

  • Conference Proceedings: Accepted proceedings from ICAT 2026 will be published through org, a dedicated outlet for African-focused research journals.
  • Journal Publication: Selected extended conference papers will be published in relevant, high-quality Insibidi journals.

Submission Categories

We invite submissions from scholars, students, NGOs, government institutions, and commercial enterprises. While the first call for abstracts has passed, this second call invites full submissions for the following:

  1. Full Academic Papers: Research papers that will undergo a strict double-blind peer review by our Scientific Review Committee.
  2. Poster Sessions: Short papers submitted for visual presentation.
  3. Workshops: Proposals for scholarly or hands-on/technical workshops.
  4. Appropriate Technology Fair: Proposals to showcase implemented projects, prototypes, or products developed by NGOs, labs, or enterprises.

Note on Review: Just as abstracts were reviewed, full submissions, posters, and fair proposals will undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure high standards for publication.

Student and Young Scholar Support

INAT is committed to the next generation of innovators. Funds are available to support a limited number of students and young scholars whose papers are accepted. This support is primarily targeted at participants from Africa and the Global South.
