The University seeks to recruit applicants with requisite qualifications, skills and experience for the following posts in the Faculty of Agricultural Science and Technology: -
- LECTURESHIP/SENIOR LECTURESHIP/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP (4 POSTS)
Department of Agricultural Engineering
POST A: MECHANICAL ENGINEERING (1 POST)
(Department of Agricultural Engineering)
Applicants must have at least an MSc/MEng Degree in Agricultural Engineering /Mechanical Engineering/Irrigation Engineering/ Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent. A PhD qualification in the respective area would be an added advantage. The applicant must have a BEng/BSc/BTech Honours Degree in one of the following fields: Agricultural Engineering/Agricultural Equipment Design/Mechanical Engineering/Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering with specialisation in Engineering Mechanical design, and should have research interests in those areas. The successful candidate will be expected to teach the following courses, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level: Engineering Materials, Engineering Mechanics, Theory of Structures, Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer and contribute to the supervision of student research. He/she must also design and develop experiments and lead research in the areas of specialisation. Membership of a professional body such as the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers is an added advantage.
POST B: AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING (2 POSTS)
(Department of Agricultural Engineering)
Applicants must have at least an MSc/MEng Degree in Agricultural Engineering /Mechanical Engineering/Irrigation Engineering/Civil and Water Engineering/ Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent. A PhD qualification in the respective area would be an added advantage. The applicant must have a BEng/BSc/BTech Honours Degree in one of the following fields: Agricultural Engineering/Agricultural Equipment Design/Civil and Water Engineering/ Irrigation Engineering with specialisation in Engineering Design Principles/ Irrigation Engineering and should have research interests in those areas. The successful candidate will be expected to teach the following courses, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level: Engineering Design Principles, Soil Mechanics Strength of Materials, and Agricultural Tractors and Automotive Engines. The candidate is expected to contribute to the supervision of student research. He/she must also design and develop experiments and lead research in the areas of specialisation. Membership of a professional body such as the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers is an added advantage.
POST C: ENGINEERING SURVEYING (1 POST)
(Department of Agricultural Engineering)
Applicants must have at least an MSc/MEng Degree in Agricultural Engineering /Civil and Water Engineering or equivalent. A PhD qualification in the respective area would be an added advantage. The applicant must have a BEng/BSc/BTech Honours Degree in one of the following fields: Agricultural Engineering/Irrigation Engineering/Civil and Water Engineering and should have research interests in those areas. The successful candidate will be expected to teach the following courses, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels: Engineering Surveying, Fundamentals of Soil Science and Soil Mechanics. The candidate is expected to contribute to the supervision of student research. He/she must also design and develop experiments and lead research in the areas of specialisation. Membership of a professional body such as the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers is an added advantage
- ENGINEERING INSTRUCTOR (1 POST)
(Department of Agricultural Engineering)
Applicants must have a first Degree in Agricultural Engineering/Civil and Water Engineering/Mechanical Engineering and National Diploma in Agriculture/Draughting/ Civil and Water Engineering/Mechanical Engineering. In addition, applicants are required to have a minimum of 3-5 years of practical, post-qualification experience in a relevant engineering field, specifically involving draughting, agricultural machinery design, farm structure design, or irrigation systems layout. The successful applicant will be expected to lead students through Technical and CAD software training, experimental work, engineering design, demonstrate the operations of various types of equipment and plant, and to guide them through hands-on operation of the plant and equipment with particular regard to safety. In addition, she/he will be expected to also assist academic staff in their research activities. Membership of a professional body such as the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers and an MSc/MEng in the related field is an added advantage.
3 TECHNICIAN/ SENIOR TECHNICIAN (1 POST)
(Department of Agricultural Engineering)
A Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering/Irrigation Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering or a Higher National Diploma in Agriculture/Irrigation and Water Engineering/Mechanical Engineering is required. A minimum of three (3) years relevant post qualification experience is required.
The successful applicant will be expected to maintain and service departmental workshop equipment used for teaching and research activities. He/she will also be required to, actively participate in the design and development of experimental test rigs, and to assist students in carrying out experiments and projects. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to assist academic staff with their research projects. He/she must demonstrate commitment to self-advancement within the academic and research environment of the University.
- LECTURESHIP/SENIOR LECTURESHIP/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP (3 POSTS)
Department of Agricultural Genetics and Cell Technology
POST A: MOLECULAR CELL BIOLOGY (1 POST)
Applicants must have a minimum qualification of an MSc Degree in Biochemistry/Biological Sciences/ Biotechnology/ Immunology/ Vaccinology /Molecular Life Sciences is required. The successful applicant will be expected to teach the following courses: Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Agricultural Biotechnology, Biopolicy, Bioethics and Biosafety in Agricultural Biotechnology Cell Culture and Transgenic Technologies and Nanotechnology. The applicant is also expected to attract research grants and conduct research. A PhD in any of the above fields and record of publishing are an added advantage.
POST B: GENOMICS (2 POSTS)
Applicants must have a minimum qualification of an MSc in Genetics/ Genomics/ Biotechnology. The successful applicant will be expected to teach the following courses: Genetics, Population and Quantitative Genetics, Plant Genetics and Genomics, Animal Genetics and Genomics, Genetic Transfer Methods, Genetic Engineering for Plants and Animals, Genome Editing & Agricultural Biotechnology and Transgene Expression and Gene Silencing Mechanisms The applicant is also expected to attract research grants and conduct research. A PhD in any of the above fields and record of publishing are an added advantage.
- TECHNICIAN/SENIOR TECHNICIAN (1POST)
Department of Agricultural Genetics and Cell Technology
Applicants must have a Higher National Diploma in Agriculture/Science Technology/Biological Sciences or equivalent and three years’ post-qualification experience; or a Degree in Agriculture /Animal Science/Health/Crop Science/Biotechnology/Botany/Agronomy or equivalent and one-year post-qualification experience. Applicants must have knowledge on the following analytical techniques; microbiology, molecular and cell biology techniques. Hands-on expertise in plant and animal breeding techniques will be an added advantage. Successful applicants must be able to prepare, demonstrate and supervise practicals for students, and to carry out indoor and outdoor agricultural activities for research. For appointment to the Senior Technician grade, applicants must have a BSc (Honours) Degree in Animal Science/Health/Crop Science/Biotechnology/Botany/Agronomy, or equivalent and at least three years’ post-qualification experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
The candidate will be expected to supervise laboratory activities, prepare equipment or chemicals for practicals and research work, calibrate and standardize equipment or apparatus, manage inventory and procurement of consumables and equipment.
- TECHNICAL ASSISTANT (1 POST)
Department of Agricultural Genetics and Cell Technology
Applicants must have at least 5 Ordinary Level passes in English Language plus a National Certificate/Diploma in Agriculture or Applied Biological Technology. The candidate will be expected to assist the technicians during practical preparations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in practical preparations for the two intakes.
- LABORATORY ASSISTANT (1 POST)
Department of Agricultural Genetics and Cell Technology
Applicants must have at least 5 Ordinary Level passes in English Language and Agriculture. Hands-on experience/ evidence of having worked in an agricultural setting or laboratory will be an added advantage. The candidate will be expected to assist with maintaining the cleanliness of the assigned laboratories and assistance in field experiments.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with cleaning of the different labs (micro, molecular).
