All is now set for the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) to host the 2026 Annual Broadcasters Convention at its main campus in Bulawayo from Wednesday, June 17th to 18th, 2026.
The high-level symposium, organised in strategic partnership with the Broadcasters Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ), is expected to be graced by the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Zhemu Soda and will convene under the theme, "Shaping the Future of Broadcasting: Sustainability, Innovation and Collaborative Regulation in a Disruptive Media Landscape."
The two-day event will serve as a premier platform for broadcasters, regulators, policymakers, academics, and industry experts to reflect of the changing trends in the broadcast sector while deliberating on emerging technological trends, structural challenges, and growth opportunities within the evolving media landscape. The landmark gathering is expected to draw wide representation from international media houses, independent local content producers, community radio stations, regional commercial media houses, and media students, among experts in the field.
Distinguished speakers heading the presenter lineup include prominent NUST academics and researchers. Notably, Professor Sibongile Mpofu, a Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) board member celebrated for her extensive scholarly research on women’s participation and contributions to the Zimbabwean media landscape, will lead a discussion panel, as well as deliver key insights on the conference theme.
This conference is set to explicitly demonstrate NUST's Department of Journalism and Media Studies (JMS) drive towards modern broadcasting trends by anchoring them in the national Heritage-based Education 5.0 philosophy. Rather than simply adopting foreign frameworks, NUST is applying research-based models to pioneer local, culture-centred media innovations, community radio industrialisation, and indigenous content production. By merging local heritage with digital media evolution, the university generates sustainable, real-world solutions that keep the Zimbabwean broadcasting sector locally relevant, technologically resilient, and socio-economically impactful.
