The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Ladies Volleyball Team once again demonstrated why they remain one of the country's dominant university volleyball sides after securing the gold medal at the 2026 Chancellor of Zimbabwe State Universities Games held at Great Zimbabwe University (GZU).

The NUST side produced an impressive campaign, remaining dominant throughout the group stages before booking their place in a highly anticipated final against the host institution, Great Zimbabwe University.

Playing before a passionate home crowd, NUST faced their toughest challenge of the tournament as GZU seized the early advantage and threatened to deny the visitors the title. With the atmosphere firmly in favour of the hosts, the pressure mounted on the defending champions.

However, the turning point came when the entire NUST Men's Volleyball Team rallied behind the women's side, providing vocal support and encouragement from the sidelines alongside coach Alex. The renewed energy inspired the players to raise their performance when it mattered most.

On the court, Kaydee, Khanyile and Virginia delivered outstanding performances, showing composure and determination throughout the decisive stages of the match. Making her debut, Fortunate Mlilwana, affectionately known as Fokoza, impressed with a calm and disciplined display, committing few errors despite the high-pressure occasion.

Virginia proved to be one of the standout performers in the final. Her powerful and accurate serves repeatedly troubled the GZU defence, producing a series of aces that shifted momentum in NUST's favour and disrupted the hosts' rhythm at a crucial stage of the contest.

GZU appeared destined for victory after racing to an 8-point lead in the deciding set. Yet the NUST ladies refused to surrender. Displaying remarkable resilience and teamwork, they fought back point by point before completing a thrilling comeback to secure the gold medal.

The victory marks yet another successful title defense for the NUST Ladies Volleyball Team, who have consistently established themselves as one of the premier teams at the Chancellor of Zimbabwe State Universities Games.

Their latest triumph not only preserves NUST's proud volleyball tradition but also reinforces the university's reputation for sporting excellence.

The gold medal-winning performance is a testament to the team's resilience, unity and championship mentality, once again raising the NUST flag high on the national university sports stage.
