NUST's Enactus team has emerged victorious at the Enactus World Cup Champions, beating Brazil to the 2024 floating trophy in the Early Stage Competition. The competition held in Astana, Kazakhstan from the 1st of October saw NUST compete in the Early Stage Competition. Twelve countries registered for this category and were drawn into two leagues.
NUST, was drawn to represent Zimbabwe in league 2, competing against the United Kingdom and Ireland, Puerto Rico, Colombia, India and South Africa, where it took first position out of the 6 teams in the pool. In the first league was Kazakhstan, Canada; Italy, Mexico, Kyrgyzstan and Brazil. Where Brazil took first position and proceeded to the final round of the Early stages against Zimbabwe's team NUST. In this final round of the Early Stage Competition, NUST (league 2 winners) represented Zimbabwe and competed against Brazil (league 1 winners) where NUST won the world championship, walking away with the floating trophy. NUST's winning project focused on turning a problem into a solution by transforming the high levels of plastic littering in the City of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe into a fuel resource. Bulawayians dump too much plastic litter daily with only 9 % of it being recycled and the rest dumped at sites like Ngozi Mine, a municipal dumpsite in the city's outskirts.
NUST Enactus Club decided to turn this 'waste into fuel', by processing the plastic into diesel through a process called " Pyrolisis". This diesel production process entails zero% environmental and atmospheric pollution. The project called "Ithemba", endeavors to empower many youths in Bulawayo by creating employment and eliminating poverty while keeping the environment clean. The Enactus World Cup was this year held at the QazExpo Congress Center in Astana, Kazakhstan, from the 1st to the 4th of October 2024. The annual global event brings together young social innovators, business leaders, and academics to showcase impactful projects and compete for the title of Enactus World Champion. Some of the countries represented include Australia, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, India, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa, and the United States The Enactus World Cup features various activities, such as the Finals of the Action with Africa Challenge, SDG Excursions, and a special session to discuss SDG 12: Responsible Consumption & Production. Also representing Zimbabwe were the University of Zimbabwe (UZ), Midlands State University (MSU), and the Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE). BUSE emerged second out of 6 teams in their league taking home some prize money.

NUST is reportedly the first university in Zimbabwe and Southern Africa, to bring home such a trophy and looks foward to participating in the 2025 Enactus World Cup in Bangkok, Thailand to bring the trophy back home again.
