
NUST has once again cemented its reputation as the country’s leading institution of higher learning, following the recognition of its Council Chairperson, Prof Lindiwe Majele Sibanda, as the Best University Chairperson of the Year (2025).
Prof Majele Sibanda received the award today at the prestigious national awards ceremony honouring outstanding performers in Government.
The Awards Ceremony was officiated by His Excellency and Chancellor of All State Universities, President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa at Rainbow Towers in Harare.
It coincided with the signing of Performance Contracts for Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Chief Executive Officers of parastatals, agencies, Chairpersons of University Councils, Vice-Chancellors and other senior government officials.The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mqhele E. Dlodlo, congratulated Prof Majele Sibanda for the recognition as a top leader.
“Congratulations to our Council Chairperson, Prof Lindiwe Majele Sibanda. This award is more than a personal triumph — it is a powerful endorsement of NUST’s strong governance, vision and leadership under Prof Majele Sibanda,” he said.
Prof Dlodlo said NUST was privileged to be led by Prof Majele Sibanda whose contributions to academia, agricultural policy and institutional leadership are celebrated globally.
“Her consistent recognition underscores her ability to steer NUST towards innovation, accountability and global competitiveness,” noted Prof Dlodlo.
In second place was the Midlands State University and Lupane State University in third position.
This latest accolade adds to Prof Majele Sibanda’s growing list of national and international honours.
NUST has consistently been recognised for its academic achievements, research output, innovation and leadership.
Prof Majele Sibanda’s latest honour builds on this tradition, reinforcing the university’s position as the best in Zimbabwe and a model for others to emulate.
