Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) soccer team has written its name in gold after clinching the men’s soccer title at the just ended Chancellor of Zimbabwe’s Games at GZU Mashava Campus.
It was a breakthrough moment for the institution that has waited years for this trophy.
At the helm was the previously unknown Coach Hlambelo, with assistant Coach Ndiweni by his side. The duo instilled discipline, belief and a winning mentality that carried the team all the way.
While most of the squad were first-timers on the big stage, a few names stood out, Ceasemore Ndlovu - The hero of the tournament. His saves and leadership inspired the team in crucial moments, Zenzo Zulu - Centre back general. His bravery at the back, alongside Mandla, gave the whole team confidence to play.
Motsa - The pint-sized terror. Despite his size, he tormented defenders with pace and trickery all tournament.
Mlotshwa and Nkomo - The diminutive midfielders. They stood firm, covered every blade of grass, and dictated play from midfield.
Aristotle Dango - _The quarter-final and semi-final leader. When it mattered most, Dango stepped up and led the pack to carry NUST into the final on the penalty kicks.
The rest of the squad, though unknown before the tournament, played like champions and bought into the system.
It wasn’t about big names. It was about unity, hard work, and trusting the process. From group stages to the final, NUST played with heart and walked away with the first ever Chancellor’s Games gold medal in soccer for the university.
