Farewell to Prof. Bubuya Masola: A Life of Academic Excellence and Service
The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) community is mourning the loss of Professor Bubuya Masola, a revered Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, who passed away last week at the age of 69.
Prof. Masola joined NUST in 2018, where he played a pivotal role in advancing the Department of Pharmacology and Biochemistry. His academic journey, marked by over four decades of service, included esteemed tenures at Parirenyatwa Hospital, the University of Zimbabwe, and the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa.
A dedicated scholar, mentor, and researcher, Prof. Masola was known for his unwavering commitment to medical education and scientific inquiry. His contributions enriched not only the NUST community but also the broader regional academic landscape.
On Tuesday the 8th of June, colleagues, students, friends, and family gathered at the Bulawayo Amphitheatre to honour his life and legacy. He was later laid to rest at the Lady Stanley Cemetery, a historic burial site in Bulawayo reserved for the city's luminaries, where notable figures such as historian Pathisa Nyathi and liberation struggle Zipra commander Tshinga Dube have also been laid to rest. Prof. Masola's dedication to academia and research left a lasting impact on the University and beyond, and his last resting place being the Lady Stanley Cemetery is a testament to his contributions to Bulawayo's development as a whole.
The NUST community extends its deepest condolences to the Masola family and all who were touched by his wisdom and warmth. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
