Duties and roles

Miss Makonese is responsible for undergraduate radiography education, delivering both theoretical instruction and clinical training across the programme. Her teaching portfolio includes:

She is actively involved in curriculum development, clinical skills training, Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), assessment design, student supervision, academic advising, and quality assurance within the Radiography programme.

Professional Biography

Miss Nhedi Getrude Makonese is an experienced diagnostic radiographer, educator, and clinical leader with over 24 years of international experience in advanced medical imaging. Her career includes senior clinical and academic appointments within major National Health Service (NHS) Trusts in the United Kingdom and Sidra Medicine in Qatar, where she gained extensive expertise in General Radiography, Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Fluoroscopy, Mobile Radiography, Theatre Imaging, Cardiac Imaging, and Interventional Radiology.

She has worked in high-volume tertiary and specialist healthcare environments, consistently delivering safe, patient-centred imaging services while maintaining high standards of radiation protection, clinical governance, and quality assurance. Her experience has strengthened her competencies in leadership, clinical decision-making, multidisciplinary collaboration, and service delivery within complex healthcare systems.

During the commissioning of Sidra Medicine in Qatar, Miss Makonese contributed significantly to the establishment of radiology services, including protocol development, workflow optimisation, equipment commissioning support, staff induction, clinical governance frameworks, and quality assurance systems. This role enhanced her expertise in healthcare service development and radiology quality improvement.

Since joining the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), she has contributed to the advancement of radiography education through curriculum development, clinical leadership, examination coordination, student mentorship, and enhancement of clinical training standards. She remains committed to producing competent, ethical, innovative, and globally competitive radiographers equipped for diverse clinical environments.

As a PhD candidate, her research focuses on digital transformation in radiology, healthcare innovation, quality improvement, and sustainable imaging solutions for low-resource settings. Her long-term goal is to advance diagnostic imaging education, research, and clinical excellence across Zimbabwe, Africa, and the global healthcare community.
