Prof Maphosa is a seasoned ICT enthusiast with decades of experience in the field. He oversees all the sections in the Department.  His roles include some of the following duties.

  • Implementation of the approved Information Technology Strategy of the University and initiation of changes to this strategy, exploiting emerging technologies to enhance the value and benefits to the University community.

  • Managing and taking accountability for the outputs and activities of the Information Technology Services Department

  • Exercising full authority over it within the framework laid down by the University

  • Maintaining relations with the diverse stakeholder groups as regards IT and ensuring that strategies are in place to respond to identified campus-wide needs.

  • Supervising all IT staff i.e. IT managers, Technicians, System administrators, Systems Analysts and Data captures and planning for new staff requirements.

  • Managing and implementing of the university MIS systems including the Library information and management systems.

  • Initiate planning and purchasing of the appropriate hardware and software for the university.

  • Proposing appropriate technological solutions for teaching and learning as well as management of university assets.

  • Identification of user and staff training needs and organising for the requisite training

  • Reporting to the Senate through the Senate Computer Committee
