National Engineering Students Awards for Research and Innovation (NESARI) - 2025

In 2025, the Department of Civil and Water Engineering (NUST) distinguished itself at the National Engineering Students Awards for Research and Innovation (NESARI), contributing decisively to NUST’s recognition as the Best Overall Team among 16 universities across Zimbabwe. Team C was crowned Overall Best Team and Best in the ZENT Category for its project on the design and cost comparison of lattice, tubular steel, and concrete structures for transmission and substation designs, delivering a technically rigorous evaluation of structural efficiency, durability, and economic feasibility for national power infrastructure. Team A secured Second Overall, won the Bulawayo City Council Topic Category, and earned the Overall Best Poster Award for its project on the reuse of waste generated from water treatment processes, advancing sustainable resource recovery and innovative waste management strategies within municipal water treatment systems. These accomplishments reflect the department’s strategic focus on resilient infrastructure, sustainable water engineering solutions, and research-driven innovation that directly responds to Zimbabwe’s development priorities.
