Executive Dean's Message

The Faculty of Communication and Information Science at the National University of Science and Technology, in alignment with the university's vision
and mission (anchored on Education 5.0 philosophy) aspires to lead the way in harnessing the power of communication, information science, technology,
and entrepreneurship to drive industrialization locally and make a meaningful impact on a global scale. The faculty seeks to be a global leader in Communication and Information Science, advancing knowledge, fostering. innovation, and shaping the future of technology-driven communication and business development. The Faculty offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes up to PhD level. With a population of just over 500 undergraduate and 140 postgraduate students; 45 full-time academic staff and a support staff of 10, the Faculty of Communication and Information Science has experienced a marked increase in our Journalism and Media Studies programme intake, although there is a decrease in enrolment in other degree programmes that we offer.  The increase in demand for our Journalism and Media Studies programme is testimony to our involvement and interaction in the training and mentoring of journalists. Students at the Faculty also have an opportunity to intern at the Campus Radio Station, NUST FM and gain valuable practical experience in radio broadcasting. Two new programmes, the MSc in Strategic Communication and BSc in Information Management and Technology are proving popular among students. At the same time, the past 5 years have seen an unprecedented increase in Research and Innovation outputs at all levels of the degree programmes.  We have had an upsurge in the quality and quantity of research publications and conference presentations. The Faculty runs an annual conference on Communication and Information Science. New programmes that are likely to be offered during the 2024/2025 academic year include the MSc in Communication for Innovation and Development; Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Strategic Communication;Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Film Production and Visual Effects and the Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Information Science and Knowledge Management.
