The University seeks to recruit applicants with requisite qualifications, skills and experience for the following posts in the Faculty of Applied Science: -
- LECTURESHIP/SENIOR LECTURESHIP/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP (5 POSTS)
Department of Applied Biology and Biochemistry
POST A: MICROBIOLOGY (1 POST)
Applicants should be holders of a BSc (Honours), B Tech (Honours) in Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Biological Sciences with relevant content for the post and an MSc/MPhil in Microbiology/Applied Microbiology/Biotechnology. The candidate should have at least 2 year’s work experience in an institution of higher education or a research institution. Experience in the assessment of students and supervision of research projects in area of specialisation as well as curriculum development will be an added advantage. A PhD or a registration for a PhD in the relevant field will be an added advantage. The candidate will be expected to be involved in teaching and practical training of undergraduate and postgraduate students in areas of General Microbiology, Food Microbiology, Industrial Microbiology and Medical Microbiology. Supervision of research projects in the area of specialisation will be expected.
POST B: BIOCHEMISTRY (1 POST)
Applicants should be holders of BSc (Honours) or B Tech (Honours) in Biochemistry with relevant content for the post and an MSc/MPhil in Biochemistry. The candidate should have at least 2 year’s work experience in an institution of higher education or a research institution. Experience in the assessment of students and supervision of research projects in area of specialisation as well as curriculum development will be an added advantage. A PhD or a registration for a PhD in the relevant field will be an added advantage. The candidate will be expected to be involved in teaching and practical training of undergraduate and postgraduate students in areas of Analytical Biochemistry, Chemistry of Biomolecules, Principles of Enzymology and Immunology, Metabolic Processes I and II and Advanced Biochemistry and Molecular Physiology. Supervision of research projects in the area of specialisation will be expected.
POST C: VIROLOGY/IMMUNOLOGY (1 POST)
Applicants should be holders of BSc (Honours) or B Tech (Honours) in Biochemistry/Biotechnology with relevant content for the post and an MSc/MPhil in Virology/Immunology. The candidate should have at least 2 year’s work experience in an institution of higher education or a research institution. Experience in the assessment of students and supervision of research projects in area of specialisation as well as curriculum development will be an added advantage. A PhD or a registration for a PhD in the relevant field will be an added advantage. The candidate will be expected to be involved in teaching and practical training of undergraduate and postgraduate students in areas of Virology, Medical Microbiology and Immunology. Supervision of research projects in the area of specialisation will be expected.
POST D: FOOD SCIENCE (1 POST)
Applicants should be holders of BSc (Honours) or B Tech (Honours) in Food Science with relevant content for the post and an MSc/MPhil in Food Science/ Microbiology/Biological Sciences. The candidate should have at least 2 year’s work experience in an institution of higher education or a research institution. Experience in the assessment of students and supervision of research projects in area of specialisation as well as curriculum development will be an added advantage. A PhD or a registration for a PhD in the relevant field will be an added advantage. The candidate will be expected to be involved in teaching and practical training of undergraduate and postgraduate students in areas of Principles of Fermentation Technology, Food Microbiology, Food Technology I and Food Technology, Industrial Biotechnology and Advanced Microbiology. Supervision of research projects in the area of specialisation will be expected.
POST E: BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES/APPLIED BIOLOGY (1 POST)
Applicants should be holders of BSc Honours or BTech Honours in Biological Sciences/Applied Biology with relevant content for the post and MSc/MPhil in Biological Sciences/Applied Biology. The candidate should have at least 2 years work experience in an institution of higher education or a research institution. Experience in the assessment of students and supervision of research projects in area of specialisation as well as curriculum development will be an added advantage. A PhD in Biological Sciences or a registration for a PhD in the relevant field will be an added advantage. The candidate will be expected to be involved in teaching and practical training of undergraduate and postgraduate students in areas of Animal Physiology, Cell Biology, Environmental Science and Genetics, Supervision of research projects in the area of specialisation will be expected.
- TECHNICIAN/SENIOR TECHNICIAN (2 POSTS)
Department of Applied Biology and Biochemistry
Applicants should be holders of a National Diploma in Applied Biological Technology and have 3 years post-qualification experience or be a holder of a Degree in Applied Biology and Biochemistry, Biotechnology or Biological Sciences and have at one year industrial work experience.
For the Senior Technician Post, candidates should have 3 years industrial work experience and supervisory experience.
The candidate will be expected to supervise laboratory and workshop activities, prepare equipment or chemicals for practicals and research work, supervise and train Technical Assistants, calibrate and standardize equipment or apparatus, manage inventory of consumables and advising on re-order levels and procuring chemicals and equipment for the department
- LECTURESHIP/SENIOR LECTURESHIP/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP (4 POSTS)
Department of Applied Physics
POST A: EARTH SCIENCES (3 POSTS)
The applicant must at least hold an M.Sc./M.Phil. qualification or equivalent in either of the following: Earth Science, Geophysics, Geology and Hydrogeology. A PhD will be a clear advantage. An applicant without a PhD will be expected to register for studies leading to a PhD qualification. Proof of active research in the form of published journal articles and at least two years teaching experience will be a definite advantage. The applicant must submit a Teaching and Research Statement.
The successful candidate is expected to be conversant with the basic Physics/Earth Sciences taught at undergraduate level. Further, the applicant shall be expected to teach the undergraduate modules in addition to the courses in M.Sc. Geophysics programme. Furthermore, the successful candidate shall participate in all the Education 5.0 pillars that require them to actively be engaged in meaningful research that leads to development and economic sustainability. In doing so, the successful candidate shall be expected to attract funding for research and foster collaborative research with the Department, Faculty and University and other institutions.
POST B: APPLIED PHYSICS (1 POST)
The applicant must at least hold an M.Sc./M.Phil. qualification or equivalent in Physics. Applicants with major research interest in Astronomy and Astrophysics, Material Science, Solid State Physics, Applied Physics and Lasers Physics, and Optics will have a clear advantage. An applicant without a PhD degree will be expected to register for studies leading to a PhD qualification. Proof of active research in the form of published journal articles and at least two years teaching experience will be a definite advantage. The applicant must submit a Teaching and Research Statement.

Further, the successful applicant shall be expected to teach undergraduate modules in addition to the modules in the M.Sc. Lasers and Applied Optics programme. Furthermore, the successful candidate shall participate in all the Education 5.0 pillars that require them to actively be engaged in meaningful research that leads to development and economic sustainability. In doing so, the successful candidate shall be expected to attract funding for research and foster collaborative research within the Department, Faculty, University and with other Institutions.
