Southern African Journal of Communication and Information Science (SAJCIS)

Aims

The Southern African Journal of Communication and Information Science will be a peer-reviewed journal that aims to provide in-depth coverage of current developments in the management, provision and dissemination of information in Southern Africa. The Journal seeks to contribute towards policy and principles that underpin the effective creation, organization, storage, communication and utilisation of information and knowledge resources. The journal seeks to influence how policies and practices in the broader themes of Records and Archives Management, Journalism and Media Studies, Library and Information Science and Publishing can be used to build theoretical and practical foundations to achieve a greater impact in the socio-political and economic transformation of Southern African countries.

The journal accepts manuscripts for publication in the following subject disciplines and other related areas.

Records and Archives Management

  • Informatics
  • Information and knowledge policy formulation
  • Information processing and management
  • Knowledge management and economy
  • Information architecture, education knowledge and literacy

Publishing

  • Production of information media - including publishing, printing and production of audio-visual media
  • The production, distribution and consumption of media texts
  • Information generation - including authorship, copyrights and primary communications
  • Meta data and structured vocabularies
  • Information literacy and information education

Journalism and Media Studies

  • Journalism
  • Development communication and climate change
  • Decoloniality in journalism and media studies
  • Television and film studies
  • Corporate communication
  • Media and identity politics (gender, nationalism, youth subcultures etc.)

Library and Information Science

  • Distribution of information - including book-selling and telecommunications
  • Use of information - including literacy, reading and user studies
  • Information seeking behaviours
  • Search, navigation and retrieval techniques
  • Bibliographic control and service - including bibliographical databases and online services
Manuscript Submission
Manuscripts submitted for publication must be written with conformity to the Format for Submissions provided on the official ZJCMS site. Please read the Instructions for Authors before submitting your manuscript. All manuscripts should be submitted as an email attachment and sent to sajcis@nust.ac.zw . Upon receipt of your manuscript, a number will be assigned and emailed to the corresponding author within 72 hours.

Refereeing Policy
All papers received by the Journal will be sent to an Editorial Board member who will refer it to at least two independent experts in the subject area of the article for review. Papers are published in the journal on a positive recommendation from the referees.

Subscription
At the moment ZJCMS is a free online Journal hosted by the NUST website. There are no longer hard copy versions of publications since the journal is now fully online.
