Career Guidance and Employment Services

The Career Guidance and Employment Office offers a comprehensive student-centred service, providing resources and programmes that are designed to help students explore, select and pursue meaningful careers. The Career services are available to all undergraduate students, recent graduates, and alumni of the university. Below is an overview of the services, resources and programmes that are offered at NUST.

Career development/career counselling

In order to make informed career choices, the counsellor helps students explore, articulate and then match values, interests, abilities, and needs with career options. Students can also:
  • Attend employer information sessions
  • Attend career presentations/public lectures and  workshops on resume writing, interview skills, job search strategies, networking  and job fairs
  • Undergo mock interviews
  • Watch interviews on video
  • Attend special events sponsored by the university
Employer relations

Employer relations bring to the University career opportunities for students. A number of methods are employed, including:
  • Visiting University Career Website (Online job board) to access a variety of job search related information
  • Participating in career fairs
  • Checking  job postings on notice boards
  • Attending employer information sessions to explore career options and begin networking
  • Attending networking sessions and events
  • Conducting on-campus interviews
  • Participating in recruitment for full-time,  part-time and graduate traineeship positions
  • Volunteering or job shadowing
  • Participating in resume reviews by employers

Career library resources

The career library contains information on various career fields, career planning, salary surveys, the Graduate School, and job search related topics. Students also:
  • Receive assistance with their career and internship searches;
  • Have their resumes and cover letters reviewed and improved
  • Receive peer support

Civic engagement

This service/facility:
  • Helps students achieve self-development through community engagement and voluntarism
  • Enables students to become responsible citizens as their values and perspectives become shaped by hands-on experience
  • Improves the student's human condition and creates in him/her a positive social change through partnerships with non-profit, business, and government agencies.
  • Teaches students to appreciate that “education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it” (Marian Wright Edelman).
