The Programme aims to develop in students the competence to produce high quality work in various subjects under the disciplines of science, mathematics and technology, as well as to teach up to high school and college level in these learning areas.


Special entry (In-service): Relevant teaching diplomas (and approved certificates) in the specified subjects; five ‘O’ Level passes including English Language and Mathematics.
Normal entry (Pre-service): At least 2 ‘A’ Level passes in relevant subjects of specialisation, and five ‘O’ Level passes including English Language Mathematics and a science subject.
Special entry candidates shall pursue a four-year programme of study on block-release, consisting of a prescribed number of modules in specialist subjects and in education and professional studies, including work-based experience and a final year research or design project. The work-based experience shall be in the third year of study.
Normal entry candidates shall pursue a four-year full-time programme of study in which the third year shall be spent wholly on Industrial Attachment/Work-based experience in an institution or organization relevant to their degree programme.

Normal entry candidates shall study additional elective modules in education and professional studies as prescribed by the department.
Candidates shall be required to obtain a total of 480 credits to be awarded the degree.

Assessment
Unless specified otherwise in the module synopses, all taught theory modules shall be assessed through continuous assessment in the form of assignments, tests, quizzes, short projects or oral and other presentations, and a formal 3-hour written examination.
The weighting of written examinations and continuous assessment shall be 60% and 40%, respectively.

The module focuses on accounting theory, application of various standards with a bias towards the disclosure in the published financial statements, the objectives of financial reports. The emphasis is on applying the principles learned in Financial accounting 1 and 2 in more applied situations as part of the process towards developing the ability to prepare financial reports. Students shall be expected to apply the accounting rules contained in IFRSs and IASs dealing with reporting performance, non-current assets, including their impairment, inventories, disclosure of related parties to a business, construction contracts (and related financing costs),post-balance sheet events, provisions, contingencies, and leases (lessee only).

The module is a continuation of Management & Cost Accounting IA however, deals with the tools and techniques that generate information needed to evaluate and control present and projected performance. Thus, forecasting key variables, recognising uncertainties attached to future events, is a basis for budget construction; the budget is then used with costing systems to evaluate actual performance. Project appraisal relies similarly on future financial projections to provide the information on which managers can evaluate expected performance and actual outcomes. Budgeting and project appraisal emphasise the critical importance of optimising cash flow and the module continues this theme from the perspective of management.
