HIGHLY experienced financial manager and administrator, Mr Stanford Ndlovu has been appointed the NUST Bursar with effect from the 1st of December 2020.
In welcoming the new Bursar, the Chairman of NUST Council, Eng Alvord Mabena, said a lot of work has been done behind the scene to assemble a formidable management team that can take the institution forward.
“All of us here working together can achieve a lot. I have the full confidence now that we are all set to have the systems go. We are all in it together; let us look beyond our time,” said Eng Mabena while addressing members of NUST management.
He said a lot is expected from the new Bursar who is joining NUST at a time of reconstructing the institution.
“A lot is happening at NUST. There are a lot of expectations and very high demands. You can only respond positively to these if you engage and engage. Listen carefully and come up with propositions on how we can find solutions to challenges. That is the reason why our motto is Think In Other Terms,” Eng Mabena challenged the new Bursar.
He appealed to all staff members to work together as a team and desist from washing dirty linen in the public.
“We must have pride in belonging to NUST. We must be proud of our employer. Let us have pride of our institution and protect it,” said the Council Chairman.
He urged the Bursar to revive construction projects at NUST.
“I am concerned about the state of our infrastructure. The Ministry too is concerned. We want to restart our construction projects and get things going towards completion. Let’s organise ourselves and work as a team,” said Eng Mabana.
In his acceptance response, the Bursar expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve at NUST.
“The challenges are huge just like the Chairman has alluded. It is my intention to blend with the team on the ground and take NUST to where it is supposed to be. I want to assure everyone that I will give my utmost commitment,” said Mr Ndlovu who becomes the third Bursar in the history of NUST.
Mr Lameck Sithole was the inaugural bursar while Dr Fortune Senamile Nkomo, who retired early this year, was the last substantive office bearer.
Mr Ndlovu brings 28 years of experience in financial management and administration from both the private and public sectors.
His journey in financial management started in 1992 at the Bulawayo City Council where he worked as an Accounting Officer and Principal Accountant in the Housing Department.
In 1995 he joined Wankie Colliery Company Limited as Management Accountant, rising through the ranks to the positions of Stores Controller (1997) and Assistant Finance Manager (1998).
He also worked for the Bulawayo City Council as Deputy City Treasurer (2001), Mimosa Mining Company (Pvt) Ltd as Operations Accountant (2003), Delta Beverages (Pvt) Ltd as Finance Executive (2004), and Tobacco Sales Floor Limited as Finance Executive (2008).
Before this latest appointment, Mr Ndlovu has been working at Hwange Colliery Company Limited as the General Manager for Finance and Administration since 2012.
He holds a Bachelor of Technology Honours Degree in Accountancy (University of Zimbabwe) and is a Chartered Management Accountant.
The University also welcomed the first Director for the Procurement Management Unit, Mr Mthokozisi Mangena.
Also unveiled, was the Director for Graduate Business School, Prof Gwendoline Vusumuzi Nani, who takes over from Ambassador Mabed Ngulani whose term of office came to an end.
Mr Charlie Ncube has been appointed Deputy Dean of Students while Ms Nomqhele Mabizela Sithole has been appointed Principal Accountant.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mqhele E. Dlodlo, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Academic Affairs, Prof Yogi Naik, Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor for Innovation and Business Development, Dr Peter Nkala, the Registrar, Mr Biggy Ngwenya, the Librarian, Ms Kathy Matsika and other members of the management team.
