MID SEMESTER BREAK VIS-A-VIS COVID-19

The National University of Science and Technology is closely monitoring the developments around the corona virus (COVID-19). The health and well-being of all our students and staff is of paramount importance. The University is therefore taking proactive and cautionary measures to avoid the risk of possible spread of COVID-19.

It has been found that contaminated surfaces that are touched by people are one of the main ways that COVID-19 spreads; hence social distancing, avoiding social gatherings and minimising groups of people is a key principle in the fight against COVID-19.

The University, therefore, announces that the mid-semester break has been brought forward to start on Monday 23 March 2020 and will end tentatively on 14 April 2020. In the meantime the University will shift focus to technology-based alternative methods of teaching.

All NUST related gatherings, events, conferences, workshops and seminars are postponed until further notice.

All NUST staff and students are urged to continue to follow the hygienic precautions (these have been provided and posted on this platform).

  • Ensure that your workplace surfaces, like desks or tables, telephones and keyboards, are clean and hygienic at all times. It is good practice to have these surfaces wiped with a disinfectant regularly.
  • Always wash and sanitise your hands.
  • Avoid hand shaking.
  • Avoid touching your face, particularly the eyes, nose and mouth regions.
  • Keep distance from other people as much as possible.
  • Seek medical attention once you feel sick or suspect contact with an infected person or feel any of the symptoms.
  • If you are ill, do not report for duty, but seek medical attention immediately.
  • If you have a sick family member at home with suspected COVID-19, you should notify your supervisor or the Human Resources department. Do not report for duty.
  • If you develop even a mild cough or low fever with a temperature of 37.3 C or more, you should stay away from work and avoiding close contact (one meter or nearer) with other people, including your family members, and, telephonically, you should seek medical help immediately.

All NUST students and staff please keep checking this website for updates and announcements. We will continue to communicate as new information becomes available.

Wishing everyone a safe passage through the entire State of National Disaster.
