POST OF PRO-VICE CHANCELLOR: INNOVATION AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

The Council of the National University of Science and Technology is inviting applications to fill the post of Pro-Vice Chancellor - Innovation and Business Development. Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, the position is strategic to the attainment of the University’s mission and goals. The University is seeking for an individual of personal and professional integrity, with a distinguished record of accomplishment in higher education or related professional field. An earned research Doctorate (PhD/DPhil) and demonstrated analytical and business/problem-solving skills are essential. A business related qualification would be an added advantage. The incumbent will be responsible for initiating, recommending, implementing and monitoring policies, systems and procedures dealing with University business development and any other functions delegated by the Vice Chancellor. 

The position therefore calls for a versatile, a respected individual with a proven record of business achievement and an individual who can provide critical leadership that will help empower the University to diversify its revenue base so as to strengthen its academic and research funding. The post requires an outstanding academic who has at least ten (10) years working experience in university business development, of which five (5) years should be at senior management level; minimum is at the level of a Dean of Faculty or its equivalent, with a distinguished record of innovation, business development and implementation of business projects.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS 

The successful candidate will be required to carry out the following: 

  • Resource mobilisation for the University. The candidate must display proven ability and skill to mobilise financial resources and other resources for the University, provide business development leadership in an institution the size and shape of the National University of Science and Technology (NUST); superintends over the establishment of innovation hubs which transform knowledge into wealth; co-ordinates, protects and commercialises research in collaboration with industry leading to the setting up of industrial hubs and parks 
  • Management/Corporate governance of the University; 
  • Quality assurance in its wider sense which incorporates governance/ management, infrastructure, quality of student experience, research and community engagement, while ensuring internal compliance with national and international standards and directions; 
  • Internationalisation of student and staff recruitment, which is an integral part of a modern University; 
  • Governance and Compliance issues, Risk Identification and Management.

  • Visionary, dynamic and innovative leader endowed with strategic thinking skills and progressive attitudes for effective articulation of the mission and goals of the University as these relate to corporate development; 
  • Appreciation and understanding of the University academic business and how it impacts on University commercial business; extensive experience in policy making, strategic planning and quality assurance; 
  • Interpersonal skills to foster harmonious relationships between and among various University constituencies especially with the business sector; 
  • Emotional stability and ability to balance the requirements of different stakeholders of the University; 
  • Technical appreciation and understanding of the University finances, innovative administrative controls, budgeting, planning and investment analysis; 
  • Innovative abilities to initiate, develop and maintain creative strategies in business development to address the financial challenges that confront the University in the twenty-first century; 
  • Ability to create wealth and to assist in the development and implementation of the University business projects; 
  • Experience in financial management, budgeting, immediate and long term planning; 
  • Ability to establish public and private partnerships to foster business relationships; 
  • Ability to identify, develop and commercialise emerging technologies for sustainable development of the economy.
