Call for Papers

Introduction
The Faculty of Communication and Information Science at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) will be hosting its annual International Conference on Communication and Information Science. This conference will be held at Troutbeck Inn in Inyanga, Zimbabwe, from the 20th to the 24th of August 2018. The conference is a forum where leading academic scientists, researchers and research scholars exchange and share their experiences and research results on the highlighted theme and subthemes. The conference is a platform for researchers, practitioners and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted to collectively attend to social and economic challenges and solve national, regional and global challenges.

In 2018 the Conference aims at exploring some of the critical issues related to cultural heritage today. In particular, the conference is to focus on research on tangible and intangible Cultural Heritage, the protection, restoration, preservation, digitalization, documentation and presentation of content on Cultural Heritage. Of particular interest will be topics of research that explore the acceptability of new sustainable approaches and new technologies. According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) cultural heritage is not only important for its cultural manifestation but more significantly for the wealth of knowledge and skills that it transmits  from one generation to the next. This transmission of knowledge has social and economic value that is pertinent not only for minority groups and social groups within a nation but for both developing and developed nations.

In line with the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim Asset), an instrument that was designed to achieve sustainable development and social equity through indigenization, empowerment and employment creation, the conference will exploit the role of cultural heritage in fostering sustainable development. It will focus on how the country’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage, contributes to the development of the nation. Many African communities are seeking alternative ways to solve problems and challenges in areas such as conflict resolution, marriage, family, agriculture, food security, gender and education. There is a need to scrutinise the role of cultural heritage in solving such problems. This can be achieved by focusing on the four strategic clusters of ZimAsset, which are Food Security and Nutrition; Social Services and Poverty Eradication; Infrastructure and Utilities; and Value Addition and Beneficiation. This will enable Zimbabwe to achieve economic growth and reposition itself as one of the strongest economies in the region and in Africa.

You are therefore cordially invited to submit paper(s) for this conference and present your latest research results, ideas, developments, and share experiences on any of the following themes and subthemes:
