About Us

The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) is a unit at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) established in August 2011 with research rather than teaching as its primary focus. Seventy percent of Research Fellows’ productive time at IDS is channelled towards research; twenty five percent and five percent of the time is directed at teaching and community engagement, respectively. The Unit attempts to bridge the gap between research and development practice in order to encourage a culture of research particularly in the Faculty of Commerce. Research at IDS addresses key economic, political and social development concerns like poverty and inequality, skewed resource distribution, gender disparities, policy and governance for sustainable livelihoods strategies.
